Jay Ungar & Molly Mason

Paul Gambill, conductor
Molly Mason, guitar
Jay Ungar, fiddle
[Harvest Homes Suite] is a tremendously moving piece at both a very primitive and a very cerebral level, effectively fusing the folk tradition with orchestral music. The musicianship on this disc is absolutely stellar, whether it is the smaller groupings of the folk musicians or the Nashville Chamber Orchestra conducted by Paul Gambill.
Bob Gottlieb – All Music Guide
Original and traditional songs are first presented in small folk ensembles, then incorporated in the fully orchestrated Harvest Home Suite, with Jay (fiddle) and Molly (guitar) as soloists with the NCO. Orchestrated by Conni Ellisor (NCO Composer-in-Residence 1998-2002).
The Ungar/Mason arrangement of Copland’s famous Hoedown, with the original Bonapart’s Retreat woven in, brings this “classical” hit into a new light.
The NCO also accompanies Jay on his Grammy Award-winning song, Ashokan Farwell, which was featured on the soundtrack for Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary.
NCO performs on tracks 8-14.
